How the Panel System Works
Simple Panel Installation With Finished Edges
AluSplash panels can be installed as single sections or combined across longer backsplash areas using connecting profiles. Matching trims help finish exposed edges, inside corners, and transitions for a cleaner completed installation.
Installation Overview
Step 1: Prepare the Wall and Panel
Start by making sure the wall surface is smooth, clean, dry, and free of loose plaster, cracks, holes, or peeling material. If installing over existing tile, confirm the tiles are firmly attached. Before cutting or installing, inspect the panel for any damage and clearly mark the front, back, and any outlet locations on the protective film.
Step 2: Measure Carefully
Measure the installation area carefully, including the height between the countertop and upper cabinets, the full wall length, and the exact position of outlets or other cutouts. Always measure twice before cutting, and make sure the panel is placed face down on a clean, protected surface before marking.
Step 3: Cut and Fit the Panel
Work from the back of the panel when cutting. Mark the outlet locations and any required adjustments, then use the appropriate cutting tools to make clean openings. Ensure all electrical work is performed by a certified electrician, and maintain the required clearance between the panel and the cooktop.
Step 4: Dry Fit Before Installing
Place the panel against the wall without adhesive to confirm that it fits properly. Check that the panel is level, the cutouts align, and the edges sit correctly. Leave the required 1.5mm expansion gap at the ends of the countertop and panel before proceeding.
Step 5: Apply Tape and Silicone Adhesive
Once the fit is confirmed, apply VHB double-sided tape to the back of the panel in straight vertical strips, spaced evenly apart. Then apply neutral-cure silicone adhesive in a zigzag pattern between the tape strips. The tape helps hold the panel in place immediately, while the silicone provides the long-term bond.
Step 6: Install, Seal, and Finish
Press the panel into position on the wall, making sure it is properly aligned. Carefully peel back the protective film without pulling too hard, then seal the 1.5mm gaps around countertops, cabinets, panel joints, and exposed edges with silicone to help prevent water or steam from getting behind the panel. Once finished, remove the remaining film and clean the surface with Vuplex® spray and a microfiber cloth, or follow the recommended care instructions for the specific finish.
L-Shaped Edge Profile
The L-shaped edge profile is an essential finishing piece for AluSplash panel installations. Its sleek, minimal design covers exposed panel edges, creating a clean, professional-looking finish for kitchens, backsplashes, and other wall applications.
When two L-shaped edge profiles meet at a corner, the profiles should be mitered at a 45° angle to create a neat, seamless transition.
External Corner Profile
The external corner profile is designed to connect two AluSplash panels at an outside corner, creating a clean, finished transition between adjoining surfaces. Made from aluminum, it provides a neat and durable edge detail for corner installations.
It can also be used when boxing around pipes, columns, or other projections, especially when paired with internal corner profiles for a complete, professional finish.
Internal Corner Profile
The internal corner profile is designed to connect two AluSplash panels at an inside corner, creating a clean and professional transition where two wall surfaces meet. This profile is especially useful for achieving a neat finish in kitchen backsplash and interior wall panel installations.
It can also be used when boxing around pipes, columns, or other built-out areas, particularly when combined with external corner profiles for a complete finished detail.
Joining Strip
The joining strip is used behind the panels to connect two AluSplash panels together, creating a clean and seamless transition between sections. Its simple, discreet design helps maintain a smooth finished appearance while allowing multiple panels to be installed across longer wall runs.
